I had the opportunity to listen to Brian's music via his press kit, website, and MySpace website. All were helpful in order to learn more about Brian as an artist as well as to help get a feel for his current following. As I pretty much already implied, I enjoy his music. Only a few songs were provided for me on his press kit but I was thankful for his website and MySpace website as they were more worthwhile and informative. Brian currently has a self entitled album available and you are able to download some full tracks and segments of others. To make it even better you can also check out his very own music video! Definitely worth a gander, www.brianmolnar.com. The only trouble I did have was that in order to purchase a c.d. you have to send in money, via snail mail which I feel might turn more people away than entice them.
Originally from New Jersey , Brian can be found primarily performing in and around the Lower East Side of New York City, most notably at The Bitter End(Singer Songwriting Sessions). He has three upcoming shows there from now until February. Brian is accompanied by Jeff Wilson on bass and backing vocals as well as Jim Ruffi on drums and backing vocals
No matter what your taste, I would suggest to at least take a moment to listen to Brian's music. Selfishly, I would love to know if other people share in my opinion about his voice. Bottom line, though, is that he is a tremendously talented musician and if you do enjoy Bob Dylan and the like than Brian Molnar is right up your alley!

AVENUE A
BRIAN MOLNAR/Feelin’ Out of Time: Ah, they can call what Molnar does New York City Americana but what it really is seems more like the bastard child of 60’s Washington Square folk. With an over riding theme that the future ain’t what it used to be, Molnar writes and sings a pretty good urban folk tale from start to finish. With musical chops to back up his writing chops, this cat delivers the goods in a way that follows the dotted line from Woody to Dylan to Springsteen before he was a mass market magazine cover boy. Organic without a speck of Whole Foods in the mix.

Triumph of Minimalism

The problem with "heart on sleeve" or "therapy" records is that they tend to come in either of two extremes - self indulgent and self pitying, or moving and inspirational. Fortunately most of New York based Brian Molnar's second CD veers distinctly toward the latter, albeit with the occasional lurch in the direction of the former. The result is a fine collection of nine original tunes delivered in a voice that is smooth and comforting, but with an edge to it that can verge on the Dylanesque. What really carries the whole project and makes it tick, however, is the combination of the minimalistic but telling simplicity of the excellent cast of tasteful musicians (no lengthy solos or displays of gratuitous virtuosity here), the exquisite harmonies of Maria Woodford, and the directness of the songs , both musically and lyrically. The cd is almost worth acquiring for one song alone, the poignant and harrowing "To Rescue You," which succinctly draws together all of album's strong points in a compelling example of how songs should be written and played.
